Why convert PNG to SVG?
PNG is lossless and supports full transparency, which makes it the default export for icons and UI graphics. But it is still a raster format: a 24-pixel icon that looks perfect at 100% turns fuzzy on a retina display or when a design system scales it up. Teams end up exporting @2x and @3x copies of every asset just to keep edges clean.
An SVG replaces that whole stack with one file that renders sharply at every size and pixel density. This converter traces the visible PNG artwork into vector paths. Because tracing currently flattens transparency, prepare the source against the background you want before converting.
Flat icons, badges, and simple illustrations convert best: their limited palettes map cleanly onto 4 to 8 colors for a crisp, graphic result. Screenshots and photo-heavy PNGs are better served by High density mode with a full 64-color palette so text and fine detail stay legible.
